International Guests
Who is this for?
We are delighted to welcome many people from outside of Canada to our wedding. This includes guests from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe. We hope this quick guide will give you some helpful information regarding the essentials to enter Canada, as well as some extra guidance on our laws and cultural norms.
Electronic Travel Authorization
For our guests from the United Kingdom and Europe, you must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter Canada.
* For anyone wishing to spend some time in the United States while visiting North America, you must additionally apply for an ESTA through the American government. This is not mandatory for guests staying in Canada.
Transportation & Travel
The Toronto Pearson International Airport is the main airport in the region.
While we recommend renting a car, here are alternative transportation options:
The GO Train
Uber/Lyft/Taxis
Local Subway/Bus Services
Traffic Regulations
We drive on the right hand side of the road!
Stop signs are frequently used in lieu of traffic lights. Please make a complete stop.
Turning right on a red light is allowed unless signs indicate otherwise. You must still make a complete stop before turning on a red light, similar to a stop sign.
All speed limits are listed in kilometers rather than miles.
Alcohol
The legal drinking age varies across Canada. In Ontario, the legal drinking age is 19.
You must be in a licensed establishment or private property to consume alcohol. Having an open container of alcohol in a public area (parks, sidewalks, hiking trails, etc.) is illegal.
Tipping & Tax
Tipping is completely optional but it is a common practice in Canada.
Card machines in restaurants will prompt 15-25% while Cafes and other establishments may prompt smaller dollar amounts.
Canada’s sales tax is added at the checkout and is not included in the listed price. In Ontario, the additional tax (known as GST) is 13%.
